Today the Club continues to thrive, with members travelling from as far as Kent and Sussex to experience the unique location that North Weald offers to model flyers.
This year our annual Scale Day was held on Sunday 3rd September and although the weather wasn’t to kind many members turned out in support, enjoy our BBQ and fly.
This is a competition for models that are replicas of full size aircraft and consists of a static component judged by how accurately the model conforms to the original and a flying section where the model is presented in flight in a similar way to the original.
Numerous trophies were presented culminating with Make Fagen, “Fingers” taking the best flown schedule.
Throughout our history several Club Members were National Champions and many members continue to fly throughout the UK and Europe, events at La Ferte Alais (France), Bad Sassendorf ( Germany) and the prestigious ‘Warbirds over Delaware fly in ‘ ( USA).
Epping and North Weald Model Flying Club has the longest uninterrupted recreational presence on North Weald Airfield.
Model flying at North Weald dates back to the early 1980s, when the late Brazilian Formula 1 driver Ayrton Senna was a member and regular participant at the field.
